Botswana Travel: How to Get There
By Air From Europe:
Travel to Botswana is fairly easy with a large number of air carriers providing flights to this high profile safari destination. Most international carriers fly to Botswana via Johannesburg including British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa and South African Airways. Flights are usualy very busy between the peak months of July - October and therefore it is best to book far in advance in order to avoid disappointment.
Costs vary from month to month how you can use £
550 - £650 as a ball park figure for a flight in economy from London Heathrow to Jo' Burg. In peak months you can expect to pay from £850 upwards. Flights between Jo' Burg and Maun (Botswana) cost approximately £120 per person.
By Air from USA:
Travel to Botswana from North America is often also routed through Johannesburg or alternatively London. Delta and South African Airways are probabaly the most regular and cost effective airlines into Jo'Burg. Flights cost in the region of £1,000 via Jo'Burg through to Maun.
By Air Inter Africa:
Botswana can be accessed via either Windhoek in Namibia or Lusaka in Zambia. Flights from Namibia depart two or three times per week, however they are often fully booked a long way in advance, are only 19 seater planes and are not very reliable. Lusaka to Livingstone is a short 90 minute flight and departs regularly throughout the week; from Livingstone you can access Kasane (in Botswana) by raod and ferry (at Kazungula) very easily. You can also fly but it is much more fun to take the ferry!
